Urdu Lecturer at University of Pennsylvania

The South Asia Studies Department at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time, one-year appointment as a lecturer in Urdu with the possibility of renewal. The appointment will begin on 7/1/2012. The appointee will be expected to contribute to the long-term quality, stability and development of the Urdu program at Penn at all levels. Applicants must possess native or near-native fluency in Urdu. Preference will be given to candidates with proven experience in teaching Urdu as a foreign language and with proven creativity and pedagogical success in the design and delivery of courses particularly at the elementary and intermediate levels of instruction. An M.A. or Ph.D. degree in an appropriate field is desired, but not necessary. The salary will be commensurate with teaching experience. Applicants should send a cover letter; a C.V., the names and contact information of three referees, samples of any relevant teaching materials authored by the applicant, and evaluations of past teaching. We will accept applications immediately with review beginning on May 1, 2012 and continuing until the selections are final.
