The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

Berkeley-AIPS Urdu Language Program in Pakistan - Now Accepting Applications by Non-US Citizens!!

AIPS is pleased to announce that the Berkeley - AIPS Urdu Language Program in Pakistan (BULPIP-AIPS) is accepting applications from non-US Citizens for its Fall 2018 intensive Urdu language immersion program based at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in Pakistan. Jointly administered by the American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) and the Berkeley Urdu Language Program in Pakistan (BULPIP) at the University of California, Berkeley, this Urdu language program will offer daily classroom instruction, five days a week, for approximately fifteen weeks.

AIPS Co-sponsored Workshop - Folk Culture and Heritage Management!

AIPS (co)sponsored a ten-day workshop on Folk Culture and Heritage Management in collaboaration with the National Institute of Folk & Traditional Heritage at Lok Virsa, Islamabad, Pakistan. This was a first of its kind event that ran everyday from 10AM until 5PM between December 18, 2017 and December 28, 2017. AIPS Trustee Frank Korom (Boston University) developed the syllabus for the workshop. He also delivered a two-hour lecture each morning, which was followed by guest speakers, discussions and group projects planning in the afternoons.

Call for Applications – AIPS 2018 Short-term Research Grants to Pakistan!!

AIPS is delighted to announce Short-term Research Grants to Pakistan (previously known as Summer Research Grant to Pakistan) for 2018. This grant is open to AIPS individual members, regardless of citizenship. US citizen applicants will be required to conduct research in either Islamabad or Lahore. All research must be conducted by December 31, 2018. It is assumed that grantees will spend one to three months in Pakistan conducting research on this award.

Application Deadline: February 15, 2018
